Bare ACSS

ACSS (Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported) is a high-capacity, high-temperature conductor designed for overhead power transmission lines. It combines excellent conductivity with the ability to perform effectively in challenging conditions, making it a reliable choice for modern power transmission needs.

ACSS conductors feature a composite concentric-lay stranded design that combines aluminum's conductivity with steel's strength. The central core is made of steel strands that support the mechanical load of the conductor, while one or more layers of aluminum 1350-O wire provide excellent conductivity. Various coating options, including galvanizing, aluminizing, and mischmetal alloy, are available to protect the steel core from corrosion. High-strength steel core variants are also offered for specific application requirements.

Applications

● Overhead Transmission Lines: ACSS is used in high-voltage transmission lines, especially in areas where increased capacity and reduced sag are essential.
● Long Span Applications: Its high strength and reduced sag make ACSS ideal for long spans, such as river crossings or mountainous regions.
Upgrading Existing Lines: ACSS conductors are often used to enhance the capacity of existing transmission lines without requiring new infrastructure.

Standard

ASTM B856

1. Title: Standard Specification for Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS)
2. Scope: ASTM B856, published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), covers the specifications for Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS). This standard outlines the requirements for ACSS conductors, which are used in high-capacity overhead power transmission lines. It details the conductor's construction, including the combination of aluminum and steel to achieve high tensile strength and electrical conductivity. The standard ensures that ACSS conductors meet the necessary performance, safety, and durability criteria for effective power transmission.
