CAAI Cable

Cables by Type

CAAI Cable

CAAI cable refers to Concentric Aluminum Alloy Insulated Cable, a type of electrical cable used primarily for power distribution. This cable is designed with a concentric conductor configuration and uses aluminum alloy for its core material, which offers a balance between conductivity, mechanical strength, and cost efficiency.

CAAI cables are used in overhead power distribution systems, particularly in urban and rural areas where space and environmental conditions are factors and they are suitable for applications where high reliability and safety are required, such as in residential, commercial, and light industrial power distribution networks.

The aluminum alloy conductor offers excellent mechanical strength and resistance to environmental stress, leading to a longer service life. Compared to copper, aluminum alloy is more affordable and provides a good balance between cost and performance. The concentric design enhances safety by providing additional insulation and grounding, reducing the risk of electrical faults.

Construction

● Conductor: The central conductor of CAAI cable is made from aluminum alloy, which is chosen for its lightweight properties and good electrical conductivity. Aluminum alloy is used to enhance the cable’s mechanical strength and durability.
● Insulation:  The cable is insulated with materials such as cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR). The insulation provides protection against electrical faults and environmental factors.
Concentric Layer: The design includes a concentric layer of aluminum alloy wires surrounding the insulation, which provides additional protection and facilitates the distribution of electrical current. This layer also acts as a neutral or grounding conductor.

Standard

NTP 370.254

1. Title: Cables for Power Distribution - Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) - Specifications
2. Scope: NTP 370.254 is a standard developed by the Peruvian Technical Standardization Institute (INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE CALIDAD, INACAL) that specifies the requirements for aerial bundled cables (ABC) used in power distribution systems. This standard outlines the design, construction, and performance criteria for ABCs to ensure they meet the necessary safety, reliability, and operational standards in power distribution networks.

ICEA S-76-474

1. Title: Standard for 600 V and 1000 V, 90°C Thermoplastic Insulated Power Cables for Use in Industrial and Commercial Applications
2. Scope: ICEA S-76-474, established by the Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA), defines the specifications for thermoplastic insulated power cables designed for use in industrial and commercial applications. The standard outlines the construction, insulation, and performance requirements for cables rated at 600 volts and 1000 volts with a maximum operating temperature of 90°C.
