Covered Line Wire

A covered line wire, also known as a single-core insulated wire, is an electrical wire encased in an insulating layer. This insulation protects the wire from environmental elements, reduces the risk of electrical faults, and enhances overall safety. These wires are manufactured in accordance with the ICEA S-70-547, DIN 48201, and BS 6485 standards.

Covered line wires are employed in a range of settings including power distribution networks, overhead power lines, and within various electrical devices. They are especially valuable in environments exposed to potential hazards such as tree branches, wildlife, or adverse weather conditions.

Construction

● Core: Aluminum strands.
● Outer Layers: Aluminum wires concentrically stranded around a steel core for superior conductivity.
Insulation Material: Typically made from polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR). These materials provide excellent electrical insulation and durability.

Standard

ICEA S-70-547

1. Title: Weather resistant polyethylene covered conductors
2. Scope: ICEA S-70-547, established by the Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA), applies to the materials, constructions, and testing of weather-resistant thermoplastic anocrosslinked polyethylene covered conductors, rated for 75℃ or 90℃ normal service temperature. These conductors are intended primarily for the distribution of electrical energy under normal conditions of overhead (aerial) installations and service outdoors.

DIN 48201

1. Title: Standard Specification for Insulated Conductors and Cables for Electrical Installations
2. Scope: DIN 48201, published by the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), outlines the specifications for insulated conductors and cables used in electrical installations. This standard covers the technical requirements for the cables' insulation, construction, and testing methods to ensure their performance and safety in various applications.

BS 6485

1. Title: Specification for Insulated Cables for Power Systems
2. Scope: BS 6485, developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), provides the specifications for insulated cables used in power systems. It includes detailed requirements for the cable's design, materials, and performance to ensure reliability and compliance with industry standards for electrical power distribution.
