Ecological Cable

Ecological Cable (also referred to as "cable ecológico media tensión") is a specialized cable designed for medium voltage applications, adhering to the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 11873. This cable is intended for various power transmission and distribution tasks, particularly in environments that demand ecological and efficient solutions. 

It is designed for versatile applications, including transmission lines for efficient medium-distance power transfer, distribution networks for reliable electricity supply, and industrial installations for connecting machinery. It also powers commercial buildings, residential developments, and renewable energy projects, while providing temporary power at construction sites. Available in variants for service voltages of 15 kV and 25 kV, this cable meets diverse voltage requirements across various sectors.

Construction

● Conductors: Made of 1350-H19 alloy wires, which can be Aluminum Alloy Conductor (AAC) or Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR). The wires are arranged concentrically for effective conductivity and strength.
● Insulation:  A uniform layer of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is used for insulation, offering excellent protection against environmental factors and ensuring high electrical performance.
Additional Features: A layer of semiconductor material is applied to the metallic conductor to further enhance electrical performance.

2. Scope: ABNT NBR 11873 is a Brazilian standard for medium voltage ecological cables made with aluminum conductors. These cables are designed for use in medium voltage power distribution networks and are recognized for their environmentally friendly construction. The standard outlines specifications for materials, construction, and performance to ensure the cables are durable, safe, and efficient in various environmental conditions. This includes resistance to UV radiation, chemicals, and mechanical stresses, making them suitable for harsh outdoor environments​
