STACIR Conductor

The STACIR/AW conductor is an advanced overhead conductor designed to enhance transmission capacity with its unique trapezoidal wire configuration. This design increases the cross-sectional area and conductivity of the conductor, making it ideal for re-conductoring projects. By replacing existing conductors without needing tower modifications, the STACIR/AW conductor provides an efficient solution for boosting transmission line capacity.

Its INVAR core and outer layer are engineered to reduce sag at higher temperatures, thanks to their knee points at installation temperatures. The INVAR core maintains mechanical strength even as temperatures rise, supporting operation up to 210°C (410°F). Although the installation requires skilled handling, this conductor is highly effective for replacing ACSR conductors in flat terrain or areas with minimal elevation changes.

The STACIR conductor features outer layers made from Super Thermal Aluminum (STAL) alloy wires, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 210°C (410°F). The inner core is composed of INVAR wires encased in aluminum. INVAR is a high-performance alloy containing 36% nickel, known for its minimal thermal expansion and durability in demanding transmission applications.

Specifications

IEC 62004

1. Title: Thermal-resistant aluminium alloy wire for overhead line conductor
2. Scope: IEC 62004, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), specifies the mechanical, electrical and thermal resistant properties of wires in the diameter range commercially available. This standard is applicable to thermal-resistant aluminium alloy wires before stranding for manufacture of stranded conductors for overhead lines. It outlines the necessary criteria for conductor strength, conductivity, and durability, aiming to provide reliable and efficient solutions for electrical transmission infrastructure.
